Associate Administrator for Safety, FMCSA
Darrell Ruban is the Associate Administrator for Safety. Darrell is responsible for the leadership, guidance, and oversight of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) field operations, compliance, enforcement, grants, CDL, training, and safety offices. Darrell works to build and strengthen partnerships with all stakeholders and oversees the integration of programs and the delivery of federal and state programs.
After working in the transportation industry for several years, Darrell began government career with the USDOT in 1990 as an Investigator in New Jersey. From there he accepted promotions to Academy Manager at FMCSA's Training Center in Arlington, VA, Acting Chief of Enforcement & Compliance and Chief of Commercial Enforcement in Washington, DC where he led FMCSA's national policy and enforcement direction.
Throughout his career, Darrell has accomplished many successes advancing CMV safety programs. He does this through a philosophy of collaboration with colleagues and other federal, state and local agencies, and industry officials in an effort to improve the safety management culture and performance behaviors impacting CMV transportation life cycle.
Darrell is a graduate of the American Public University and has completed leadership programs at the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and Harvard School of Government.
